Sweet treats raise funds for humane society

What do cupcakes, dogs, and cats have in common? National Cupcake Day, a Canada-wide fundraising endeavour for animal shelters.

Meadow Lake and District Humane Society (MLDHS) is participating for the third year in row, and are hoping for another sweet, successful day. MLDHS President Jillian Doucet said the endeavour has raised hundreds of dollars since its first year in Meadow Lake in 2016.

“It’s great fundraising because everybody loves cupcakes,” she said, “and the money will be put towards things like vet care for animals, transport to other shelters, and day-to-day operations.”

Doucet said the participation from both bakers and consumers of the desserts has been high. Last year more than $900 was raised, and by noon this year almost $500 was collected.
