Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince Albert and District has started their search for a new home.

Their current property, on 11th St. E. is up for sale. Development Coordinator Natasha Thomson said the non-profit is staying in Prince Albert, but needed to relocate.

“The charitable sector has taken a hit recently with some cutbacks so that’s one of the things we are facing,” she said.

Thomson said the organization has been feeling the pressure, forcing them to look at ways to streamline their operations and cut costs. She said they would also like to collect the equity from the house they currently own.

“We are looking to a move into a different office space that might serve us better, and potentially form some partnerships,” she said.

As a non-profit group, Thomson said they can offer their potential partner a tax receipt in lieu of part of the rent. Thompson could not say exactly when the group will move to a new location.

“We will know when the time is right and the house sells,” she said. “We know that the real estate market is about to pick up here pretty quick when spring hits.”

The property is listed through RE/MAX P.A. Realty for an asking price of $159,900.

Thomson said their moving plans will have no impact on their current programming. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince Albert currently has partnerships with three schools in the city, and run two “Go Girls” groups which helps girls develop more self -esteem and learn about healthy living.
