Truck company involved in Humboldt crash suspended

The Alberta Transportation Ministry has suspended the Calgary trucking company involved in the deadly Humboldt Broncos bus crash.

Adesh Deol Trucking Ltd. contracted the semi-truck that collided with the bus carrying the junior hockey team north of Tisdale on April 6.

Fifteen people died and 14 others were injured in the crash.

The Alberta Transportation Ministry confirmed Tuesday the company has been suspended indefinitely pending an investigation. The decision was a direct result of the Humboldt tragedy.

A spokesman with Alberta Transportation said Adesh Deol Trucking Ltd. started operating last fall. John Archer said the government suspended the commercial carrier’s safety fitness certificate on Monday.

According to the ministry, this is standard practice when a commercial carrier is involved in a significant or high-profile incident posing a high risk to the public.

Adesh Deol Trucking Ltd. had passed its inspections as recently as February and March. The ministry noted the company — which has a total of two trucks — has a very clean record of its operations in Alberta since starting up in September.

Rumours have been circulating on the status of the semi-truck driver, who survived the crash.

In a statement Tuesday, RCMP only said there have been “no additional deaths in relation to the incident.”
