Two people are in custody facing multiple charges following a pursuit that ended with shots fired just off Highway 16 west of Delmas Saturday.
Maidstone RCMP said they received a report of a fuel theft from a gas station in Lashburn late Saturday morning. The theft involved a black Dodge Caravan taxi cab, RCMP said, which also matched the description of a suspect vehicle in an alleged robbery and assault with a weapon on Friday in Regina.
RCMP located the vehicle on Highway 16 and activated their emergency equipment, but the van did not stop.
A pursuit began and the RCMP followed the van eastbound on Highway 16 with the assistance of North Battleford RCMP and Police Dog Services. The van stopped just off Highway 16 west of Delmas, and RCMP said a firearm was discharged from the van. This resulted in an RCMP member discharging their own firearm.
An RCMP vehicle then struck the van and the van became stuck in the ditch. A firearm was pointed towards officers, police said, and an RCMP member again discharged their firearm.
With the assistance of Police Dog Services, an adult male and adult female were arrested at the scene. The woman received medical treatment for what were described as minor injuries caused by Police Dog Services. No RCMP members were injured in the incident.
Tristian Pinder, 19, of Elk Point, Alta., and 30-year-old Verena Petruka of Melville are both facing multiple charges including flight from police, possession of stolen property, discharging a firearm with intent and assaulting a police officer. Both will appear in North Battleford Provincial Court Monday at 9:30 a.m.
