Man sentenced for impaired driving causing death
A man from the Melfort area has been sentenced for causing a fatal crash while driving impaired.
Troy Tolofson, 46, appeared Wednesday at Melfort Provincial Court, where he pleaded guilty to a charge of impaired driving causing death and a charge of resisting arrest. He received a 30-month prison sentence.
The case dates back to Sept. 2, 2017. A truck travelling east on Highway 789 collided with a car travelling south on a Kinistino grid road. The driver of the car, 46-year-old Quinn Sheremeta, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Tolofson, who was driving the truck, was arrested a short distance away from the crash site after he fled the scene on foot.
In addition to his prison sentence, Tolofson received a three-year driving prohibition and a 10-year firearm prohibition.
