One person was rescued Saturday afternoon after partially falling through the ice and becoming stranded on the river.

Emergency crews responded to the banks of the North Saskatchewan River along River Street E. near First Ave. shortly after 2:15 p.m., following reports of a person in distress on the ice.

The ice rescue team deployed their inflatable boat and two first responders were sent out to rescue the women who could not get off the ice due to hypothermia causing her legs to stiffen up. They safely brought her back to shore and paramedics transferred her to Victoria Hospital.
