UPDATE: Teams still searching river for missing four-year-old

UPDATE: Search and rescue personnel are still scouring the North Saskatchewan River for any sign of missing four-year-old Sweetgrass Kennedy.

According to an update from the Prince Albert Police Service, four boats with emergency search and rescue teams were deployed to search at strategic points along the river today. Police are working with support from Saskatchewan First Nation Emergency Management, the Prince Albert Grand Council, the Prince Albert Fire Department, and RCMP.

Police Spokesperson Alanna Adamko said updates will be released to the public and media as new information becomes available.

The four-year-old boy was last seen May 10 in the 900-block of Second St. E. After a massive volunteer search effort failed to locate Kennedy, police called off the ground search late Friday afternoon, saying trained search and rescue personnel were focusing their efforts on the river.

According to police, the search for the missing boy was still ongoing Monday morning.

“Due to the dangers associated with the river bank, emergency personnel are asking the public to avoid the area and leave the search to the trained professionals,” Police Spokesperson Alanna Adamko wrote in a statement issued Monday morning.

Adamko thanked the public for their patience during the search, and said updates will be made public when new information becomes available.

When Kennedy was last seen, he was wearing a light blue Star Wars hoodie and orange Halloween pyjama pants.
