A local business threw its support behind the Prince Albert Food Bank’s ‘mac and cheese knockdown’ event.

Wes Erlendson, the owner of Safeway, said it feels great to be giving back.

“It’s important that we support what takes place in our community,” Erlendson said.

Erlendson said the store collected roughly $2,900 in donations through customer donations at tills.

Kerry Ramsdell, the co-manager of the Prince Albert food bank, said the organization couldn’t be more thankful for community partners like Safeway.

“Safeway’s been really great. This is good for us because we can go get whatever we need for the food bank,” Ramsdell said.

She said the donation will help the food bank in a friendly competition currently ongoing between other organizations in the province. Food banks in North Battleford, Prince Albert and Meadow Lake are all competing to see who can garner the most donations until June 8.

Ramsdell said the ‘mac and cheese knockdown’ event is scheduled to be hosted on June 16 at the Gateway Mall. The food bank is collecting boxes of Kraft Dinner macaroni which will be assembled into a domino-style display and then knocked down to mark the end of the drive.
