A feathery flock of newly-released waterfowl waddled in the grass and splashed in the pond at Prince Albert’s Memorial Gardens.

Dozens of children, school staff and seniors smiled and danced as they released the ducks into the pond at the annual Duck Launch event. The launch, now in its 21st year, sees a number of ducklings delivered to participating schools and seniors’ homes around the city where they are raised for several weeks before being released into the pond at the cemetery.

Don Cody, the pre-arrangement specialist at Memorial Garden, said the event is a great way to get people out in the cemetery.

“You can come here and visit your loved ones and show the children it is not a scary place at all. It is a place to come,” Cody said.
