UPDATE: Charges have now been laid in connection with the alleged incident in Pierceland, RCMP announced Tuesday afternoon.

William David Angus, a 41-year-old resident of the Pierceland area, was handed numerous criminal charges, RCMP said. The charges include breaking and entering and committing sexual assault with a firearm, sexual interference, assault with a weapon, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, recklessly discharging a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose, mischief, and driving while disqualified.

Angus will appear in a Meadow Lake courtroom July 19 to answer the charges, RCMP said. He is presumed innocent at this stage.

A 41-year-old man is in custody after an alleged break-in and sexual assault at a home in Pierceland, and he’s also accused of discharging a firearm while fleeing the scene.

RCMP were called to a Pierceland home Monday afternoon shortly before 4 p.m., and their investigation determined an armed adult male suspect had fled the scene in a pickup truck before police arrived.

According to police, the suspect had an altercation with another motorist while fleeing the scene, which led to shots being fired. RCMP said the suspect in the pickup met a civilian motorist at a rural intersection roughly two kilometres southwest of Pierceland, and the suspect reportedly fired at the other vehicle before driving away. More gunshots were heard in the area shortly after the altercation, RCMP said, though no injuries were reported.

Officers from the Pierceland, Meadow Lake, Loon Lake, and Cold Lake RCMP detachments searched the area for the suspect, with the help of a local pilot and members of the provincial Protection and Response Team. The suspect was located and taken into custody without further incident, RCMP said, and a firearm was also located and seized.

The 41-year-old suspect has not been charged, RCMP said, though their investigation is ongoing. The police force said more information will be released in a later update.
