Sentencing for a man who abducted and assaulted an eight-year-old girl from a Prince Albert playground last summer has been rescheduled.

Jared Charles is now scheduled to be sentenced on the matter August 15. Charles, 20, was originally set to be sentenced August 1, but the judge in the case said in court Friday that he can no longer make that date due to a swearing-in ceremony for another judge out of town.

Charles did not appear in court Friday.

Charles pleaded guilty earlier this year to a number of charges in relation to the incident from July 4, 2017, including kidnapping and sexual assault. The Crown is asking for a jail term of nine years in the case, while Charles’ defence lawyer argued five years would be more appropriate.
