Suspended bus driver to go back to work

A Saskatoon bus driver suspended with pay last week will be working again, according to Saskatoon Transit.

“He will be going back to work. At this time, we just can’t discuss when and where. It’s really hard to say at this time with the investigation still wrapping up,” said Bob Howe, branch manager with Saskatoon Transit.

The driver was suspended with pay after an argument with a man in front of his bus at the University of Saskatchewan transit hub. The man refused to move and the heated argument was posted on YouTube.

Now, Howe said Saskatoon Transit is working with the U of S to see how to prevent future incidents.

“The U of S are aware of our concerns up there as well. We’re trying to work very closely together to hopefully reduce or eliminate potential situations like this,” Howe said.

While the internal investigation on this bus driver and incident is just wrapping up, Howe said the results of that investigation will not be made public.

However, he said Saskatoon Transit has taken what they can from this incident in order to move forward.

“We learned some very valuable lessons and why it’s so important to follow procedures. In confrontational situations, operators are instructed to be non-confrontational and call for a supervisor and/or police back-up.”
