A roof collapsed at Mosaic’s Colonsay potash mine on Monday.

It happened in the thickener building where clay is separated from the salty solution known as brine.

“The building is a very low traffic area where there were no employees at the time,” said Brad Delorey, director of public affairs with Mosaic.

He said it is not clear what caused the roof to collapse, but an investigation will start shortly.
“The Mine Safety Branch has been notified, so a full investigation will occur which will start, I’m assuming, as soon as they can be there.”

The Colonsay potash mine is located southeast of Saskatoon. It has been in operation since 1969.
