Target open for business in Saskatoon

Saskatoon shoppers were there bright and early to get a first look at the Target location at the Circle Centre Mall.

About 75 people were lined up ahead of the 8 a.m. opening of the new store.

Among them was Karly Torgunrud, who was the first in line after getting there for around 6:30 a.m.

“I was here first in line, my pay cheque was in and I’m just so happy because it’s nice and accessible for me,” she said.

Torgunrud said she was keeping an eye on flyers for about the last week so she’d be ready. She said she had one person in mind as she made her way inside:

“My son’s wedding, I want to get him a gift — something nice, with a Target bag.”

Lorne Keller was also in line for the store opening, but he didn’t share Torgunrud’s enthusiasm.

“I’m just here to check it out,” he said, adding that he hoped the store would be like the Target locations he’s visited down in the United States.

“It’s probably like any other store. American chains they come to Canada and the pricing is quite a bit different than it is down in the States,” he said.

Target’s two Saskatoon locations are part of about 130 the chain aims to have open across the country by the end of this year.
