Search begins for new hospital foundation executive director

After 14 years with the Victoria Hospital Foundation, Rob Dalziel has decided it is time to retire.

A formal letter was sent to the board last month.

“Looking at the horizon I came to the view that it was fairer to the foundation and to myself, to make the decision to retire this year, rather than a year or two down the road,” Dalziel said.

Throughout his time with the foundation, Dalziel has been involved in many fundraising campaigns for the hospital including the Bed Campaign and Give a Little Life.

In 2009, he was instrumental in the launch of the very popular Radio Bingo, which continues to run every Thursday night on 900 CKBI.

“We’ve sold over $760,000 worth of radio bingo cards since February of 2009. We have paid out over $360,000 in prize money to weekly radio bingo players, and the rest of the funds we have bought medical equipment for the hospital,” he said.

Looking back on the many projects he was involved with, Dalziel said it was difficult to pick one favourite. He added he has always been impressed by the community’s support.

“Every year there has always been a goal or a target that the community and the surrounding area have risen to the challenge and it’s been great,” he said.

Dalziel’s last day is March 31. Afterwards he has plans to travel, but his long-term plans will keep him close to the community.

“We like Prince Albert, we like cottage country, and we have a lot of other things that we are involved with in the community.”

There is no word yet on Dalziel’s replacement. The board will make that decision in the coming months.
