The Regina Police Service (RPS) is putting a one-time influx of cash from the provincial government towards trying to solve the city’s worst multiple murder ever.

On Monday Police Chief Troy Hagen announced that $100,000 being provided to the RPS as part of a new provincial program will be dedicated to the investigation into a triple homicide that is nearly four years old. Hagen wouldn’t give any details about what the money will be spent on, however.

On August 6, 2010, an entire Burmese family was found dead in a north Regina townhouse. The investigation into the deaths of Gray Nay Htoo, 31, Maw Maw Htoo, 28, and their son Seven June Htoo, 3, has been the biggest in the city’s history, with 60 investigators having spent time on the file over the years.

The money is half of the provincial government’s first payout under the Criminal Property Forfeiture Fund; the RPS received $100,000 and the Victims’ Fund got another $100,000. The Forfeiture Fund is a collection of money seized by police services in Saskatchewan over the last several years. The account has amassed $1.31 million since 2009, according to Corrections and Policing Minister Christine tell.
