Saskatoon’s Luke Deitner will be getting help with his life-long battle against weight.

Weight No More Consulting has donated the bariatric surgery that 21-year-old Deitner needs to help shed much of his 600 pounds.

“It’s hard to imagine because I have lived this way for so long but my only hope is that I can be healthy and happy,” Dietner said.

“And be a really active member of this society.”

A crowd funding campaign was launched for Dietner in February to raise $30,000 for surgery out of Montreal. The story of his efforts were shared with Weight No More CEO and director Deb Simons.

“When I first saw the story about Luke and being 21 years old, I thought this young man has his whole life ahead of him… we need to do something to help him,” Simons said, adding that she then talked to the doctors she works with about the safety of the procedure.

“They said we could change this young man’s life around and at that point I offered to pay for Luke’s surgery.”

Weight No More Consulting offers dental work, cosmetic surgeries, and bariatric surgery in Mexico. Simons explained that on top of organizing the procedure and transport they also provide support services in Saskatoon after their client’s return home.

“He has a lot of hard work to do ahead of him. Surgery is by no means the easy way out,” Simons said.

“He’s got a regimented guideline that he has to follow after the surgery. We will be by his side and we will be there for him.”

She said that Deitner has been placed on a per-operative diet and it is likely he will be able to head into his surgery by May. Within a year of the operation she said he could be down between 150 to 200 pounds bringing him much closer to his goal of shedding around 400 pounds.

On top of the current diet, Deitner also needs to raise money for airfare, ground transportation, and his hotel stay.

“We have projected about $10,000 would be the new goal,” he said, adding it’s a much easier number to fund raise thanks to Simons.
