Two Prince Albert men took home some top prizes at Merit Saskatchewan’s third annual Awards of Excellence, held in Saskatoon on Thursday night.

The first award went to Orlan Peterson, who stood out as the Outstanding Site Supervisor. His 20 years of work at RNF Ventures have included a dedication to hard work, organization, and the safety of the worksites he manages, according to his peers.

“Orlan has not forgotten where he started in the industry and he knows that everyone on his job is important to the success of the project,” said co worker Jacques Renaud. “He treats everyone with incredible respect and it’s great to see him honoured by the industry.”

Ed Elliott with Miller Contracting got a nod, taking home the Merit Trade Excellence Award.

Five years ago, Elliott started his carpenter apprenticeship training with the company and moved on to get his Journeyperson’s certification in 2012.

His employer has taken note of his positive attitude towards the job and commitment to detail.

“The quality of Ed’s work has always stood out and he’s a leader when it comes to job safety,” said Dan Yungwirth, general manager of Miller Contracting. “He has made a tremendous contribution to our company in a short period of time.”

Elliott and Peterson were two of nine people to win awards at the gala, which was attended by more than 250 construction industry representatives from across the province.

The gala was held at the German Cultural Centre in Saskatoon, however the Merit Contractors Association of Saskatchewan is based in Regina.

“The Merit Saskatchewan Awards of Excellence is an opportunity for our association and our member companies to acknowledge their employees for a job well done,” said Karen Low, executive director of the association.

The association was founded by a combination of generals, mechanical and electrical contractors in 1988 with the goal of promoting open shop contracting.
