Many people in Saskatoon’s generosity will help a grieving family find closure.

In just under a week, over $6,600 in online donations poured in to help finance the river search for Myles MacIntosh. The 28 year old went missing during his bachelor party in February.

“We always knew that everyone was out there listening and really touched and affected by the story, but this really shows that they are trying to understand how it really feels,” Kara Kohle, sister of MacIntosh’s fiance Michelle, said.

Kohle started the online donation page “Bring Myles Home” initially to pay for accommodation and food costs for a search team from Grandmother’s Bay. The goal was first set at $5,000 but they hit that number very quickly.

“It was absolutely truly amazing. When we got really close to $5,000 I was just about in tears and when we went past $5,000 I was in tears,” Kohle said.

She said that they decided to up the goal to $10,000 to be prepared to send MacIntosh’s body to his family in Nova Scotia if it is found. Kohle said if it is not found, the money would be donated to search and rescue charities.

“It’s a terrible feeling constantly wondering where he is,” she said, adding that the search helps the family deal with the loss.

“For me it gives me something to do to just try and help and try and make his parents, his sister, and my sister have some sense of closure.”

The search teams from Grandmother’s Bay will arrive Monday morning and the search itself is expected to start early on Tuesday and last for the week.
