N.B. receiving more funding for policing

North Battleford has received some new funding for policing, thanks to help from the province.

The Government of Saskatchewan announced Thursday it will be providing $770,000 for targeted police initiatives.   

The grant will be used to fund seven existing North Battleford RCMP positions in 2017-18.

On behalf of Justice Minister and Attorney General Don Morgan, Battlefords MLA and Advanced Education Minister Herb Cox said in a release “community safety continues to be a priority for the Government of Saskatchewan.

“We are happy to help support the dedicated RCMP members in North Battleford through the Municipal Police Grant,” the MLA added.

This grant supports “enhanced community policing” throughout North Battleford so the RCMP can target priority areas.

The province said the funding will help officers “have a more visible role” in the community and target serious and organized crime.

North Battleford Mayor Ryan Bater said the new funding is “a tremendous support to our community safety strategy.”
