MLTC prepping for First Nations Winter Games
Even though the Tony Cote First Nation Winter Games don’t take place until April 2018 in Saskatoon, recreation staff at Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC) is busy right now getting everything in order for local teams.
Basketball, badminton, curling, hockey, and broomball are just a few of the events in which athletes between the ages of 11-17 from 13 Tribal Council teams across the province will be competing in. Locally, MLTC’s deadline for coaching support is closing tomorrow, and tryouts for the various teams will be taking place in Meadow Lake, Waterhen and Makwa Sahgaiehcan in late December and mid-January.
MLTC Youth development coordinator Terrance Sylvestre said once in place, the coaches will help with team selection.
“The coaches, along with an independent evaluator will select the teams,” he said. “This way will ensure the process is as fair as possible.”
