M.L. RCMP hosting town hall meeting tonight

Mar 7, 2018 | 12:00 PM

This evening, Meadow Lakers will have a chance to directly interact with the leadership of the local RCMP detachment.

Staff Sgt. Tim Sartison will host the event where residents will learn more about the local RCMP and ask questions about the detachment’s services and emergency response. The event will take place at the Catholic Church Hall on 506 Third Ave. E, and will begin at 7 p.m.

In a previous interview with meadowlakeNOW, Sartison said after a presentation, the event will be opened to the public.

“Anybody with questions or concerns about the policing delivery or anything that they’d like to bring up is definitely welcome to do so,” he said.

He said he believes it’s important to have an open and honest discussion with citizens of the area about the challenges local officers face daily. He said part of the process is to meet regularly with local elected officials, like the RM and City Councils and Flying Dust council, which happens monthly.

“This is an opportunity to get the opinions of some other people who might have some important issues and concerns to bring forward,” Sartison said. “We’ll then take that information and use that in our annual performance plan. We want to know we’re addressing the needs of the people.”

Meadow Lake is one of a number of communities around the province hosting these types of forums.

“I think it’s a step in the right direction,” Sartison said.
