North Battleford firefighters battled a blaze at the city’s waste management facility near Wearing Rd. Friday morning.
The fire was in the main pit of the landfill, where household waste is stored. There were no tires in the pit, as they are stored in a separate area of the facility at the other end of the site.
In an email, City Communications Coordinator Susanne Abe said the waste management facility was closed Friday morning due to the fire. She said the landfill was set to reopen to the public at noon after the fire department extinguished the blaze.
Abe said the city has taken the steps required in notifying the appropriate authorities.
