North Battleford is getting ready to celebrate the 131st year of the Northwest Territorial Days exhibition and parade coming up soon.

“The theme (of the parade) is everything under the sun,” Battlefords Agricultural Society general manager Jocelyn Ritchie said.

She said there are some new highlights at the event this year visitors should enjoy.

The big parade kicks off Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m., leaving from the Civic Centre in North Battleford, and will follow a new route, which is posted on the Agricultural Society’s website and Facebook page.

“It is a new parade route this year because of construction,” Ritchie said. “I think it’s a much better route now.”

Organizers have already seen many entries for the upcoming parade prior to the fair.

“Last year we had well over 100 entries, and some really good ones,” Ritchie said, adding she expects just as many participants this year.

“We guarantee there will be a lot of floats, and a lot of animals, to see,” she added.

The NW Territorial Days exhibition also promises to be entertaining.

“We have a wonderful act out of Quebec – Trapèze Le Voltigeur,” Ritchie said. “It’s amazing. It’s almost like a mini Cirque du Soleil. I really encourage everyone to come out to see that.”

This show will take place three times daily on the grounds between the Agrivilla and Agriplex buildings. Another highlight at the fair will be the the ultimate aquatic predators show in the Agriplex.

“You’re going to see some sharks and all kinds of different aquatic life, as well as all kinds of endangered (aquatic species),” Ritchie said. “That’s another new show we have added this year. There will be lots of family entertainment throughout the whole exhibition.”

Starting Wednesday, Aug. 15, the first day of the fair, there will be a light-horse show as well as a draft horse show to take in.

“We’re one of the very few in the province that actually have a draft horse show anymore,” Ritchie said. “So I encourage everyone to come out and see that.”

The Northwest Territorial Days exhibition runs Wednesday, Aug. 15 to Friday, Aug. 17 in North Battleford, with the parade planned for Aug. 14, the evening prior.
