The Humboldt District Hospital is undergoing some changes, and two recent donations will help make the modifications a reality.

The Humboldt Emergency Relief Organization donated almost $6,000 to the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation, while the Lake Lenore Knights of Columbus presented the foundation with a cheque of $3,000, and pledged another $3,000.

Four of the inpatient rooms at the Humboldt District Hospital will undergo a transformation, foundation Executive Director Lorrie Bunko told northeastNOW.

“These four rooms will serve a dual purpose,” Bunko said. “The rooms will remain an acute care patient room, however [they] are going to be modified to be an exceptionally safer room for providing care for mental health and addictions patients.”

Modifications will include new faucets, plumbing, showerheads, window coverings, hardware, and shatterproof mirrors, in an effort to reduce self-harm risks.

Bunko said they currently have three of the four rooms fully funded. A donation from the Lake Lenore Lions Club last year helped fund one of the rooms.

“We still have one room to fund, and the process is going to be starting here at the beginning of March, and hopefully completed by the end of March,” Bunko said.
