Muskoday prepares for election

Feb 12, 2019 | 5:03 PM

For the first time in almost three decades, Muskoday First Nation will have a new chief.

The Muskoday band election is scheduled to take place March 21, and one of the most obvious omissions from the official candidates list is incumbent Austin Bear, who opted to retire after serving 14 terms over 28 years.

The candidates running for chief in this election are Sandi Lebouef, Herman Crain, and Sandra Burns.

The official candidates list was posted on Friday, one day after the nomination meeting. (Nigel Maxwell/paNOW Staff)

In addition to the election of chief, there will also be five councillor positions on the ballot. A total of 16 people were nominated for those positions including former Chief Everette Bear (1985-1991). All the existing councillors are running again.
