Residents in the Carrot River and R.M. of Moose Range will be able to have their minds a little more at ease in the future.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has trained six first responders in Saskatchewan’s Outback, the Town of Carrot River announced on Feb. 4.

Kevin Trew, Carrot River’s town administrator, told northeastNOW six additional trained first responders has nearly doubled the amount of availability for an emergency in the Carrot River/R.M. of Moose Range area.

“The number of trained first responders in our community had started to dwindle down to about a hand full,” Trew said. “When people are on holidays or otherwise occupied at work and just can’t get away for whatever reason, and there are a variety of reasons, then it just brings down the amount of first responders available to respond in our community.

“We’re very fortunate to have an ambulance in our community and that is the prime response, but in a case where the ambulance is unable to respond to any kind of personal emergency in our community, whether it be in the R.M. of Moose Range or the Town of Carrot River, then first responders are often called.”

To his knowledge, Trew said there had been no instances where emergencies went unattended, although the risk of a potential a delay in response time was there if the town’s ambulance was busy.

Trew said the Town of Carrot now has a compliment of first responders.
