PSD Feebee helps police with weekend arrest

The Prince Albert Police Service had a busy weekend leading up to Family Day and called on their police service dog to help with the arrest of a man suspected of driving a stolen vehicle.

PSD Feebee was called into service to help track down the suspect Saturday night. The incident happened around 11:40 p.m. when officers noted a stolen van in the 800 Block of 28th St. W. Police activated their emergency lights and followed the van until it pulled into the driveway of a home on Laurier Drive. Police said in a release Monday that the driver of the van suddenly put the vehicle into reverse and backed out of the driveway, hitting the police vehicle in the process, and sped away.

The stolen vehicle then made its way to Sixth Avenue West and then east through a back alley, south on Fourth Avenue West and East on Marquis Road before coming to a stop in the parking lot of the Prince Albert Inn. Feebee then helped track down the suspect after he fled on foot.

A 37-year-old man is facing charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, evading police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and assaulting a police officer in connection with the incident. He is scheduled to appear in court in Prince Albert Tuesday.

Prince Albert Police officers also responded to a complaint involving impaired driving Saturday around 3 a.m. Officers on patrol observed a car travelling south on Ninth Avenue West swerve into oncoming traffic. A 47-year-old man from Pinehouse is charged with impaired driving and refusing a breath sample in relation to the incident. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Feb. 27.

In another incident, police arrested two people reportedly driving a stolen Jeep. Police say the owners of the Jeep spotted their vehicle around Noon on Saturday in the 900 Block of 21st St. W. and called police.

Officers approached two men walking nearby, who appeared out of breath and could not provide identification. After further investigation, police arrested the two men in connection with the vehicle theft, charging a 29-year-old man from MacDowall and 21-year-old man from Prince Albert.

The Prince Albert Police Service responded to 229 calls over the weekend. Police made 61 arrests, 24 for people who were intoxicated in a public place. Thirty of the calls were in relation to disturbances, police said.
