P.A. cheer team impresses in Vegas

Around 200 cheerleading teams from around North America attended the Encore Cheerleading Championships that took place in Las Vegas this past weekend and a Prince Albert team was among the groups.

Prince Albert Cheer Explosion (P.A.C.E) and their Ignite team competed in the Senior Level 1 D2 Division category and placed third. Their finish at the event earned them an invite to the U.S. Nationals.

Unfortunately due to logistics the team won’t be able to attend the nationals. Coach Sandra Kirtzinger said the invite to nationals was a real honour but it wasn’t their main goal.

“To see what type of experience it was and how our little Canadian team from Prince Albert would place at an American competition,” Kirtzinger said. “It was a great team bonding experience.”

Kirtzinger said she’s incredibly proud of her team.

“You know it’s two minutes and 30 seconds that they’re out on the floor but it’s also six to seven months of hard work that they put in to do that routine. They’re amazing,” she said.

Ignite and other teams from P.A.C.E wont be idle for long as they have upcoming competitions this March that include the Warman Cheer Classic and the Saskatchewan Cheerleading Association Provincials in Regina.
