Local power lifter wins silver at nationals

It’s safe to say Prince Albert’s Cameron Preymack made a big impression on the judges at the national powerlifting championships in Ottawa this week.

He finished second in the 74 kg. division. His recorded squat was 551lbs; deadlift was 610lbs; and bench press was 352lbs.

“For training, I followed a 12-week-training-program that involved very long nights and early mornings depending if I was working. I believe it was worth it,” he said.

Over 700 athletes from across the country competed at the event. Although Preymack has been to nationals four times, this was his first time as an open competitor in the 24-year-old to 39-year-old age category.

Shellbrook’s Kate Payette also competed at the event and finished seventh in her flight out of 14 (23rd out of 28 lifters) She was successful in all nine of her lift attempts and bested her personal bench press record by 11 lbs. (176.4 lbs).
