MUCC using social media to spread positivity, not gossip

Students, staff, and parents affiliated with Melfort & Unit Comprehensive Collegiate (MUCC) are using social media platforms Twitter and Instagram to focus on positivity.

The idea of MUCC’s message, #SpreadPositivity, was originated by the school’s student council. MUCC staff runs their Twitter account, while the students take control of their Instagram account.

MUCC’s Instagram post on March 6 showed the students would not follow or stand other online accounts created to spread gossip.

Jerry Heffernan, principal of MUCC, told northeastNOW his feelings toward the initiative.

“Very proud,” Heffernan said. “We are blessed with a great student body here and excellent parents. The more positive outreach that we do – that always needs to be our emphasis in life in general as well.”

Heffernan cited MUCC’s junior drama performance as a recent example of spreading positivity.

Heffernan said any students, staff, or parents who want to #SpreadPositivity can interact with MUCC on Twitter @CometNews or directly message the students on Intsagram @cometachievements.
