Library hosting author reading and panel discussion about healing through writing

Healing through writing is the focus of an author reading and panel discussion tonight at the Alex Robertson Public Library.

The event begins at 7 p.m. and includes three guest speakers who will read from one of their books, as well as answer questions about how they use writing on their healing journey. Kristine Scarrow, who is currently the writer-in-residence at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon and author of four young adult novels, will be one of the presenters as she’ll also lead a sold-out workshop Saturday on the topic.

“That why we were interested in her because she has been working over the last few years now with people in the hospital and she offers them journaling exercises that help them in the way of getting better,” panel moderator Miriam Körner said. “They may be at the hospital for physical or mental reasons, either way she helps them on their journey of getting well.”

While Scarrow will read from her book The 11th Hour, other speakers include Harold Johnson who will read from his book Clifford, as well as Nancy Lafleur who will read a portion of Finding Lost. Johnson and Lafleur are both members of the tri-communities and have presented at the Alex Robertson Public Library in the past. Körner stated when Scarrow was invited to town to do the workshop Saturday, organizers though it would be a good idea to include Johnson and Lafleur in a panel discussion as all three authors use writing to heal.

After the authors are finished reading from their books, Körner noted attendees will have a chance to ask any questions they have. The event is made possible by a partnership through the Alex Robertson Public Library and the La Ronge Wild Rice Writers’ Group.
