Nominees announced for Tri-Community Awards Gala

The nominees for the second annual Tri-Community Awards Gala hosted by the La Ronge and District Chamber of Commerce have been announced.

Seven residents are nominated for Citizen of the Year including Carla Frohaug, Connie Haugen, Murray Galambos, Becky McKenzie, Sheldon Merriman, Deri Ann Ratt and Karen Sanderson. Other nominees include The Basement Potter, Corey Hardcastle Photography, Mosquito Workshop and Woodland and Waterways Regional Visitor Centre for Artpreneur of the Year, as well as Cravings Late Night Food, KFC and Ella’s Kitchen for Food and Beverage Business of the Year.

Nominees for Home-Based Business of the Year are 31 Bags (Kristy McDougall), Alayna Esthetics, Deb’s Pantry, Ella’s Kitchen, H & H Water Services, Julie’s Home Daycare, Kirock Holdings and Mosquito Workshop. There are six up for Non-Profit of the Year and they are Northern Animal Rescue, La Ronge Ice Wolves, Lac La Ronge Child and Family Services Agency Inc., NorthSask Special Needs Inc., Woodlands and Waterways Regional Visitor Centre and La Ronge Native Women’s Council Inc.

Ten nominations were received for Service, Industry and Trade of the Year including Bedrock Electric Plumbing and Heating, G.W. Ventures, JAM Automotive and Power Sports, Kustiak Trucking and Construction, Lakeshore Towing, Mayo Auto Clinic, North Shield Electric and Construction, Penny’s Hair Design, Speedy Glass and Woodlands and Waterways Regional Visitor Centre. Those up for Retail Business of the Year are La Ronge Home Hardware, La Ronge Co-op and Woodland and Waterways Regional Visitor Centre.

Alayna Esthetics, along with Native Strong Apparel (John Sanderson Jr.), were nominated for Youth Entrepreneur/Leader of the Year. The Post-Secondary Advocacy Award sponsored by Northlands College will be announced at the gala.

There have been major changes to how the gala was organized this year including new award categories and a recently announced awards selection committee. Some nomination categories have been renamed, some have been compiled into a single award, some are brand new and others have been removed all together. The awards selection committee consists of non-chamber executive members and non-gala organizing committee members.

All members of the awards selection committee volunteered to do so and they were Deanna Belhumeur, Karla Hardcastle, Betty Hutchinson, Clarence Neault, Angela Plunz, Tayven Roberts, Emily Ross and Thomas Sierzycki.

Previous Tri-Community Awards Gala winners include Lake Country Co-op for Business of the Year, Home Hardware for Retail Business of the Year, Cravings Late Night Food for Restaurant of the Year, Mid City Electric for Contractor of the Year, JAM Automotive and Powersports for Automotive Business of the Year, Woodlands and Waterways Visitor Centre for Non-Profit of the Year, Colleen Clark for Citizen of the Year and Matt Klassen for Leader of the Year.

The gala will be held April 27 at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre. Tickets will be available for purchase.
