Vehicle hits fallen power lines on Highway 3 resulting in power outage

Power was out for several hours on Sunday for a couple of communities in the region after a vehicle struck power lines that were lying on an area highway.

Melfort Fire and Rescue reported that a vehicle had struck the power lines that had fallen and were lying across Highway 3 near Weldon.

Fire Chief Jason Chief told northeastNOW that the cause of the fallen power lines remains undetermined.

According to SaskPower, Birch Hills, Kinistino and Weldon areas were without service from shortly after 4:30 p.m. until 1 a.m. on Monday morning.

No injuries were reported in the incident. An investigation into the fallen power lines is underway.
