Dart club hits the mark at provincials, nationals

This past weekend, the North Battleford Zone hosted the 40th Annual Saskatchewan Darts Association Provincial Championships.

Thirty-four men and 18 women from Stanley Mission to Regina came to the Tropical Inn to compete over three days for a chance to represent Saskatchewan at the National Championships.

The North Battleford Zone sent eight players to compete, five of which will go on to represent Team Saskatchewan in June this year at the National Championships in Saskatoon.

The zone successfully defended the Zone Cup for the second straight year, which is awarded to the zone that has the highest aggregate score per player.

North Battleford’s Jason Skinner placed third and Noel Aucoin finished in ninth place on the men’s side. Angela Aucoin took second place on the female side, while Melanie Thomas took eighth. Sharon Acker finished ninth.

Additionally, Chester Sakebow from North Battleford finished 11th, Eric Sese finished Joint 24th, and Jessica Lobb finished Joint 16th.

The weekend prior, the North Battleford Zone found themselves in Saskatoon for the main event, one of two National Darts Federation of Canada Ranked events in Saskatchewan, and one of several events in Canada ranked by the British Darts Organization.

The singles event winners earn a direct entry into the Winmau World Master’s tournament in England this October.

In Friday night’s blind draw, Logan Crooks from Alberta and Noel Aucoin won the event, while Jason Skinner and his partner Stacey Ballentyne from Saskatoon placed Joint Third n the 32-team field.

In Ladies Doubles, Angela Aucoin teamed with Sandy Schallock from Alberta and placed second, losing an extremely close final to Linda Wilder and Michelle Spicer from Alberta.

Singles events brought a field of 81 men and 29 women, who ended up being rough on the North Battleford crew with no one cracking the top 16.
