Annual community garage sale proves a good time for a good cause

The Historic Battleford Lions Club is hosting their annual Community Garage Sale on Saturday at the Battleford Arena.

Organizer and Lions Club member Suzanne Reid said now in its tenth year, the community garage sale continues to gain traction throughout the community with record numbers getting involved.

“We’re pretty excited about it,” Reid said. “We’ve had good years so far, and are thinking that this year is going to be even better. We have more tables [this year] than we’ve ever had with 50, and in addition, the Lion’s Club is taking donations as well. If people don’t want to sell their own stuff, they can bring it and donate it, and everything goes towards local charities.”

After having about 42 vendors last year, the Historic Battleford Lions Club’s annual community garage sale projects to have about 50 this time around, as the event continues to grow, in this, it’s tenth year. (submitted photo/Suzanne Reid)

Reid said while the club receives a number of requests from local charities each year with proceeds being split towards multiple causes, this year one of the primary initiatives will be fixing up the walking trails in Battleford.

Items left at the end of the garage sale will be donated to the Diabetes Association.

“We like to see our community members all get together for a good event,” Reid said. “[Just] get together, and have fun; everybody finds treasures at garage sales and it seems like those people who are selling are happy to see it go, and those people who find it are happy to find a treasure.”

It runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
