Brush fire near Melfort ‘difficult’ to put out: Melfort Fire and Rescue

Apr 30, 2019 | 1:02 PM

A dense brush fire smouldered overnight in the R.M. of Fletts Springs after being extinguished by fire crews.

Melfort Fire and Rescue members were called to the fire early in the evening on Monday and remained on scene until around midnight. According to a post on their Facebook page, dry and windy conditions made gaining ground on the fire difficult.

Smoke was present in the area as the fire smouldered in some spots after it was contained to a bush and ravine.

The department also fought a ditch fire on Sunday night three kilometres west of Kinistino.

The cause of both of the fires have not been determined.

Fire officials continue to warn of the dry conditions around the province and advise residents to be cautious of any materials or actions that could result in fire.
