Alana Ross seeks Sask.Party nomination

A local health care professional hopes to secure the Saskatchewan Party nomination for the Prince Albert Northcote riding for the next provincial election.

Alana Ross, said her background in nursing and teaching Continuing Care Education gives her an understanding of the many social and economic challenges facing the diverse population of the riding.

“That’s given me an opportunity to work with many different populations that we have in the city and I think that gives me very good insight,” she told paNOW after announcing her intentions late Friday afternoon.

Ross has been a front line nurse, union rep and part of a management team, and said she hoped to become the voice of the people in helping to combat issues such as poverty, addictions, unemployment, crime and a lack of economic development.

“It’s my intention to bring those challenges forward and to work with the necessary parties to make improvements,” she said.

While Ross is now seeking political office she’s no stranger to matters behind the scenes. In 2011 she accepted the position of President of the P.A. Northcote Constituency Association.

She’s also very involved in the community, having held positions on various boards, coached and was a 4-H leader, according to a media release. She was recently elected to the board of the Prince Albert Exhibition Association.

Ross said her ability to reach across political parties, her experience and friendship with First Nations, and her connections with unions and the business community were among her strengths.

She added being a candidate who actually lives in the P.A. Northcote riding was an asset.

“So, this is my community, these are my neighbours, and I’m doing this for us,” she said.

New Democrat Nicole Rancourt is the incumbent MLA.
