Over 3,500 needles found at recycling centre

The North Battleford fire department is reminding residents to use the city’s needle drop boxes after finding a large deposit of sharps at the recycling centre.

Crews were called for a sharps pickup around 3 p.m. on Tuesday when they found 3,580 needles that were put in recycle bins.

“We strongly recommend that needles are deposited in these bins and kept in approved containers,” the department wrote in an incident report.

The safe disposal of sharps, the department said, prevents health concerns to employees of these facilities and the public.
