No bail hearings for Naicam residents charged in traffic stop

Jun 5, 2019 | 3:00 PM

Two Naicam residents charged in a drug trafficking incident had bail hearings declined by their defence lawyer.

Kevin Hill, a lawyer for Legal Aid Saskatchewan, declined bail hearings for Chance Keller and Brittany Simonson in Nipawin Provincial Court on Wednesday, June 5, as both no longer have release plans. Both are set to appear again in court July 3.

Both Keller and Simonson are charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possessing a weapon dangerous to the public. Simonson is also charged with breach of a conditional sentence.

The charges stem from a traffic stop in the Town of Nipawin on Monday, May 20, where RCMP officers found 63 grams of methamphetamine, 23 hydromorphone pills, and 68 buprenorphone pills. Officers also found bear spray, drug paraphernalia, and other items consistent with drug trafficking.

Co-accused Zack Nowlin who faces similar charges will appear in Nipawin Provincial Court on June 12.
