Police say house fire ‘suspicious’

The Prince Albert Police Service has confirmed they are treating a house fire in the city’s east flat area as suspicious, and are investigating with the assistance from the Prince Albert Fire Department.

The house in the 1000 block of Fourth St. E. has been boarded up since Monday morning’s fire, but the charred shell of a car remains in the driveway. There is significant damage still visible to the side of the house, as well as to the home next door.

On Thursday, paNOW spoke to three separate neighbours, who all requested their identities be kept anonymous. One woman said she had heard what sounded like an explosion coming from the house, and then saw flames bursting out the windows.

paNOW learned an elderly woman had been living in the house for quite some time, but it’s not clear if she had been living there alone. The neighbours said they saw a lot of people coming and going to the property over the past months. The woman’s family has declined to comment.
