No injuries in overnight house fire in Melfort

A house fire in the overnight hours in Melfort last night did not result in any injuries.

Just after 12:30 a.m., Melfort Fire and Rescue responded to a home on the 600 block of MacLeod Ave. E where light smoke was discovered by emergency crews. An active fire was found in the mechanical room.

SaskPower attended to isolate power and crews extinguished the fire.

The occupant of the home and a small child were able to escape the home when they were awoken by smoke alarms. Several small pets were removed safely by emergency crews.

The home was ventilated to remove smoke and toxic gasses.

No details yet on the extent of the damage caused.
