The Battlefords RCMP has a new top dog at the detachment.

Insp. Tom Beck officially started with the detachment as the new commanding officer. He introduced himself when he visited North Battleford council Monday.

Beck replaces Insp. John Sutherland who was transferred to the Saskatoon detachment last year.

Originally from B.C., Beck said he grew up in Whitehorse in the Yukon.

In his career with the RCMP Beck has worked in various locations including Williams Lake and Prince George, B.C. Before moving to North Battleford he was in charge of the Major Crimes unit with the RCMP while stationed in Victoria, B.C.

Mayor Ryan Bater welcomed Insp. Beck to the Battlefords community.
