Violent altercation after suspected bike thief confronted

Prince Albert police are reporting what they’re calling a scary incident after a local man caught up with a suspect accused of stealing two bicycles.

It happened last week Tuesday at 1 p.m. on Sixth Avenue E. outside Domino’s Pizza.

According to police, the citizen approached the suspect and tried to take away both bicycles. The suspect kept hold of one of them and then things turned nasty.

“When the member of the public confronted the suspect, the suspect produced a weapon and threatened him with it,” Sgt. Travis told paNOW. “We are trying to confirm who he is and investigate it accordingly.”

Willie said while he recognized people got upset when items are stolen he asked the public to think about their responses.

“I do caution the public in going after people and confronting suspects when something like this happens for this exact reason. Thankfully no one was hurt,” he said.

The citizen managed to keep hold of one of the bikes but the suspect left with the other one.

He’s described as between 5-7 and 5-9, up to 170 pounds, Indigenous, brush cut, wearing sunglasses, a black bunnyhug, black pants with white stripes down the sides and a grey backpack.
