Senior White Sox looking at wildcard game before playoffs

Jun 24, 2019 | 12:00 PM

The Meadow Lake Sr. White Sox end their 2019 regular season with six wins and seven losses after their doubleheader on June 23.

The Sox started in the rain for their first game against the Macklin Lakers. It was a close game with the Lakers walking away with a 7-5 win. The Sox were able to pick themselves back up and take the next game 11-1 against the North Battleford Midgets.

First baseman Owen Dancy praised pitcher Craig Weran on his throwing and said it was nice to end the season on a win.

“It’s tough getting going for the second game usually,” Dancy said. “It was nice that we didn’t have to worry about the weather and didn’t have to worry about looking after the diamond.”

The Sox are currently seventh in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League (NSRBL) but other teams still have regular games which could move the league placement of the Sox before the playoffs.

A change to the league this year is the addition of the wildcard games which teams who placed between seventh to tenth in the league will face each other for a seed in the playoffs. The teams will play their wildcard games on July 4 or if the game is rained out they will play on July 5.

“It’s one game per wildcard and then whoever wins those two games move up into the playoffs and then they have a best of three series all the way until the last team standing,” Dancy said.

The NSRBL playoffs are set to begin the second week of July and end the last week of July.
