The newest volunteer fire department in Saskatchewan continues to receive support from business in the rural municipality.

The department in the Rural Municipality of North Battleford received a $75,000 donation from Richardson Pioneer for the construction of a new fire hall.

A media release from the rural government said Kim Corfield, the director of operations for Richardson Pioneer, was “immediately supportive of building a strong relationship with the department,” which launched April 1.

The department is working to construct a new hall to house the fire and wildland fire trucks, emergency rescue vehicle, a water tanker and water storage, a training center, offices, in house laundry services and more.

The R.M. said the donation is a “great show” towards building the facility.

“Richardson Pioneer is proud to be a part of such an exciting new department,” the release said. “They are happy to see the new department working promptly to develop mutual aid agreements between neighbouring jurisdictions and municipalities to provide the highest level of service and safety to all residents and businesses in this R.M. and surrounding communities.”

The volunteer department consists of Fire Chief Neil Good, Deputy Fire Chief Trevor Watts and a trained group of 18 volunteers, 17 men and one woman.

To date, the department has responded to five wildland fires, two motor vehicle collisions, one of which required the department to use extraction tools to remove the victims.

The department received a $25,000 donation from Parrish & Heimbecker in May.
