Downtown North Battleford is set to transform into a giant outdoor theatre.

The North Battleford International Street Performer Festival is returning for its sixth straight year from July 26 to 27. The festival will take place on 101st Street from the library down to the theatre.

The festival has a full line up of local, provincial, national and international performers coming to town.

The lineup includes performers like Spinja and Arcana’s duo of fire dancers, and internationally acclaimed hoop dancer Terrance Littletent.

The event will be two days full of performances, artisan booth displays and food vendors. Alexis Christensen, co-chair of the festival, said this is the only festival of its kind in Saskatchewan.

“The North Battleford International Street Performer Festival is the only one of its kind in Saskatchewan. It is an award-winning festival through Saskatchewan Tourism and this is our sixth year that a group of six volunteers have worked round the clock to pull off.”

The Downtown Business Board has also come on to help the festival this year and will be hosting a beer gardens in the parking lot beside the bingo hall.

“They are doing it to be a part of the festival, and they are also going to be donating half of the proceeds to the volunteer committee,” Christensen said. “That is something new and cool. It is not something we had thought about for the first couple years, but [more money for the event] is always welcome and if attracts new people to the festival then it is that much better.”

Also new this year will be a Kidsfest running alongside the main festival inside the Library Park. The event will have performances geared toward kids, a circus performer showing them hands-on tricks, balloons, face painting, tie dye shirts, and colour fights.

The festival is a completely free event and is considered a passion project for the group of volunteers.

“We do it just to bring something positive to the community, to try to bring people together. It is for all walks of life, everyone is welcome and it is free,” Christensen said.
