Nipawin pool opens to the public, still under some renovations

Nipawin’s Pool at Central Park opened to the public on Monday, July 8, although there’s still construction being done on a new section that’s been added.

The older section – which has been updated with new lockers and wall finishings – is available for the public along with the pool, but the new section with additional family change rooms that is more handicap and wheelchair accessible will still take more time.

“The public has been very patient in allowing us to get the facility open,” Nipawin’s Chief Administrative Officer Barry Elliott said. “Unfortunately, there were a number of construction delays for a number of different reasons. “We’re still working on a schedule for completion of that area.”

Nipawin council voted during its meeting on July 8 to extend the town’s contract with Hunter Scott Projects Group, the pool project’s manager, until approximately July 31 after the initial contract expired at the end of May. The extended contract will cost the town just under $4,000.
