One of the greatest players in Prince Albert Raider history has returned to the Western Hockey League.

Former defenceman Manny Viveiros was announced this morning as the new Head Coach of the Spokane Chiefs.

Viveiros spent last season as an assistant coach with the Edmonton Oilers after guiding the Swift Current Broncos to the WHL Championship in 2018. His coaching career began in 2007 in Austria, where he spent eight seasons before moving to Germany. After two years in the German league, he made the jump back to North America to join the Broncos, who he coached for two years.

The former Raider’s name still stands all over the team’s record book, having produced 321 points in 251 games over four seasons. Included in his six franchise records are most points, goals, and assists in a career by a defenceman, and most assists and points in a single season by a defenceman. During his time in Prince Albert, Viveiros helped the team to their first WHL Championship, and lone Memorial Cup title in 1985.
