Capitals sign Protas to a three-year entry-level contract

According to an announcement on Twitter, the Washington Capitals and Aliaksei Protas have struck a deal.

The former Raider forward, will make $716,666 annually over a three-year period.

The Viper of Vitebsk, Belarus was drafted just under a month ago by the Capitals 91st overall in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Speaking about the quick signing of the Raider so soon after he was drafted, Voice of the Raiders Trevor Redden said this was a clear sign the Capitals have plans for their new asset.

“Sometimes you see that getting selected is just one step in a long journey …and there are players who never get signed, “Redden told paNOW. “It’s very rare to see a third round draft pick getting signed so quickly. The Capitals know what Protas is, they like who he is, and they’re prepared to commit three years of their time to him.”

Redden figured it wouldn’t take long to see fellow Raider Brett Leason put pen to paper.

“When it come to contacts there are negotiations; there’s agents involved, so it can sometimes take a bit of time. All indications are out of the first small development camp I saw that the Capitals expect Leason to play for their AHL farm team in the fall and you can only do that with a contract.”
